Kurai wrote: Heart no Kuni no Alice. LOVE LOVE LOVE this series. Can't wait until they release it in English < 3 All the characters are stunning and the storyline is jokes. Best Alice in Wonderland ever. This manga has already been released in English by Tokyopop. You can likely find volume one in your local Chapters store under the name Alice in the Country of Hearts

Re: What manga series are you currently reading?
Just finished reading vol.20 of Please Save My Earth. I had started collecting the series 4 or so years ago, and over the past year had managed to snag most of what I had left to get (it's one of VIZ's longer running series, so a few volumes have gone out of print). Now it's just vol.21, the big finale left to read.... the dual narratives of the characters present day lives and their previous lives as alien scientists operating out of a base on the Moon, and the ways their past connects with their present, makes for a fascinating and heartbreaking story, as Alice slowly comes to realize her past as the spiritually worshipped botanist Mokuren, and the younger Rin plots his revenge for wrongs in his past life. It's pretty fascinating stuff, and the author commentary is the most fun I'd read in awhile, as readers write in to talk about their crazy moon dreams. Compelling stuff, I hope VIZ or CMX [who have published Saki Hiwatari's other series Tower of the Future] will pick up the sequel series she's apparently started.

I'm currently reading; - Fairy Tail (Holy mudder, it's so addicting! O_____O!) - Bleach (I'm so.. very far behind..) - Zombie Loan (It's a very interesting read) - Please save my Earth (It's different but in a good way!) - Red River (It kind of reminds me of Fushigi Yuugi..) - D.Gray man (I really like the art style and the storyline so far.) - Double Arts (I'm not that far into it to judge.)
Yeah, I haven't read manga much.. I just watch anime! 8D

http://allaboutcomics.wordpress.com/201 ... eal-manga/ Hey folks, here's a really good article I found about how to get manga without resorting to assorted evil ways. I've said a lot of this stuff before, but this is worded in a friendly tone and sums it all up pretty well. Lots of good tips for getting manga on the cheap.

I recently read a one-shot autobiography manga called 'A Drifting Life'. The library has a few copies in Halifax and it's really worth reading! The book was great, very inspiring - the work ethic of the pioneers of manga is unbelievable. Plus the book is over 700 pages!

Re: What manga series are you currently reading?
Finished reading Please Save My Earth with Vol.21- such a great ending, and it's amazing this was a 7 year long work. I wonder what it must of been like for the readers following it in the magazine, from childhood to adulthood- the finale definitely gives lots of closure, and flashes forward to the "present" in a sense by presenting the characters as adults. The scifi aspects continued to be excellent, and the reality of the moon base's fate provided some shocking but beautiful visuals. I hope VIZ reprints this again at some point- it'd read well in the VIZBIG format. Most of the volumes are still in print, so it's worth checking out.
(I'd recommend ordering online or at a comic shop that uses multiple distributors- this didn't attract a lot of bookstore shelving, and Vol.21 came out 3 years ago now)
Also started reading my Golgo 13 books with Vol.1- wow, seeing assorted political figures in manga is hilarious [Manga Madeline Albright! Would she of succumbed to Golgo's emotionless flirtations?], and it's pretty good action stuff, full of crazy ideas. A bit more sedate then shonen battle manga, but a little more enthralling in terms of tension, so a nice change of pace. This is good junk for older readers.
In terms of library stuff, picked up some Full Metal Alchemist volumes, and wow, the manga is as good as the anime. The art's a little cartoonier, but I expected that from reading Yen's edition of the Hero Tales manga. The commentary section is hilarious- I love the 4 panel strips, the cartoonier Alphonse moments, and the way she sneaks in a little cartoon of the assorted dead characters in each volume going to heaven [or sometimes hell]. I also now wonder if Arakawa had a girlhood crush on Steven Seagall, since so many of her characters look like him.
Go to the library! It has awesome free stuff! And doesn't steal from manga publishers/creators like evil scan sites. Plus, you get exercise! Yay exercise!

We are so lucky with how many hundreds of manga volumes you can get through our Halifax libraries - much awesome for graphic novel fans in general! Though a killer on my shoulders carrying the bags of books I always leave with every visit xP

Re: What manga series are you currently reading?
HPL is insane for manga/anime selection. I imagine other areas of Nova Scotia benefit from that too thanks to ILL's. New Brunswick libraries are good too- the selection was smaller a few years back when I did a summer job there when I was in school, though I imagine it's grown a lot, and book interlibrary loans being free province wide makes things very efficient. I had access to a whack of french language and english language manga through that, and they have a fair number of comics too. Worth checking into, and something that directly leads to more books being bought. Not to everyone- If you're reading illegal copies of manga online, you're doing yourself and your community a disservice by not taking advantage of the great material available to you legally and free at the library. http://vision.gnb.ca/web2/tramp2.exe/lo ... ey=ENGLISH Looks like the online catalogue for the NBPL has a dedicated GN section now- great improvement. They even have Oishinbo I've added Fairy Tail to my comic shop account ^_^ Yay!

I've heard good things about Special A- the anime version Sentai Films released looks good.
